Jubilant scenes in Cairo. Al-Jazeera live feed is amazing! Reports say it was the Army that finally pulled the plug after the reaction from the speech last night. Quatar welcomes transfer of power to the military. EU lends its support as well.

Unfortunately, the transition to democracy and/or self-determnation has not gone well for many African* nations. I hope that Egypt becomes a model of how to do it right. I was so impressed by the people’s commitment to peaceful revolution. I just heard someone say (from Tahrir Square) that their demonstrations have shown that no matter who assumes power, if they don’t provide good governance, the people won’t stand for it. They’re sending a message to all future leaders of Egypt.

*After more than 100 hours as a student of an Ethiopian professor who taught us that Egypt is an African nation, I have to call it that. He could be reading this. 🙂
